Green Bay Packers Injuries Affecting Fantasy

“…and you’ve got to put your bodies on all the gears, and the all levers, and you’ve got to make [the machine] stop”

-Mario Savio

Asides from the Packers red zone problems and the injured Ryan Grant, the only real disappointing part of the supposed Green Bay Packer offensive juggernaut has been Greg Jennings, who has been utterly forgotten by Aaron Rodgers. However, a Donald Lee fumble, and the whole machine comes crashing down (hence the quote, see what I did there? I actually wrote something interesting). Jermichael Finley goes out with arthroscopic knee surgery trying to

With all those injuries, my head hurts too

make a tackle on the Redskins’ player who had recovered the fumble and is out for 4-6 weeks, Donald Lee then gets a chest strain and is out for a couple of weeks, and Aaron Rodgers trying to find someone open gets a concussion and could miss the Week 6 against the Dolphins.

Conceivably, the Packers could be starting Brandon Jackson (no big deal here, been starting since Grant went down), rookie tight end Andrew Quarless (4 catches for 51 yards in Week 5), back up quarterback Matt Flynn, and banged up tackles Mark Tauscher and Chad Clifton could miss Week 6.

What do all these injuries mean for fantasy owners who have been cursed with an injured/non-productive part of the Packers’ offense? Just wait, I’m going to tell you:

For the owners of…

Aaron Rodgers

IF Aaron Rodgers misses Week 6, look on your bench for you backup QB, or you can grab somebody like Kyle Orton, who may still be available in your league, Tampa Bay’s Josh Freeman, or Detroit’s Shaun Hill (even though his matchup

Even though you don't have your stud tight end, he's probably hurting more than you...or...maybe not.

isn’t great, he’s still been hot).

Jermichael Finley

I’ve already mentioned rookie Andrew Quarless who will assuming pretty much all the tight end duties with both Finley and Donald Lee out for a couple weeks, if not more. But others you could pick up are Marcedes Lewis in Jacksonville who has already had two multi-touchdown games, the Chiefs’ Tony Moeaki who is slowly becoming Matt Cassel’s number one target, Detroit’s Brandon Pettigrew who is becoming more and more a part of Detroit’s suddenly-dynamic passing game, and Benjamin Watson in Cleveland for deeper leagues or PPR leagues.

Greg Jennings

I know he’s not injured but he really has not been good, which for where you drafted him is a huge understatement. Even with the number one target in the Packers’ offense–Jermichael Finley–down, rather than get Jennings involved more, they got other players involved like James Jones and Andrew Quarless (who both, by the way, had more yards than Jennings). I’ve never really like Jennings, and I think he’s just a glorified deep threat. Trade him for the most value you can get without it being a landslide for your trade partner.
